What is Chessboxing Ocho?
Chessboxing Ocho is a chance for you to experience what it is like to be a chessboxer and hone your chessboxing skills in a controlled environment. Chessboxing Ocho consists of eight fighters matched by weight and boxing ability sparring simultaneously in two rings with 4 chess boards. Sparring is conditioned appropriately for experience and ability. Chessboxing format is 3 mins chess, 3 mins boxing, 1 min transition with 9 mins time control.
The purpose of Ocho is not to win but to improve. As you develop your chessboxing and gain ring experience, you will progress through a set of grades from white hand wraps through to black. Each grade indicates your current level with the final grade of black hand wraps denoting you are title-ready.
Chessboxing Ocho happens each Quater at Islington Boxing Club. If you would like to take part in the next Ocho, please attend training and we will do what we can to get you in the ring! If you are already part of our community please fill in the form below…
